About

The Contax T2 is a autofocus 35mm compact camera released in 1991 by Kyocera under the Contax brand. It was the second of the T series of high-end compact film cameras targeted at the professional and luxury consumer markets.

The camera was designed primary as a point and shoot camera. Unlike most traditional point and shoots there are various adjustments such as exposure compensation, manual focus control, and an aperture priority control.

Exposure compensation can be controlled with a rotating dial on top of the camera. A window displays the range in 0.5 EV steps from -2 to +2 EV. The main dial can select focus from AF (on) mode, and manual distance modes of 0.7m, 1m, 2m, 5m and infinity. It counts with a program Auto-Exposure from 1s to 1/500s shutter speed and an aperture F/2.8 – F/16.

During an appearance on The Jimmy Fallon Show, Kendall Jenner shared her love for photography and revealed her preference for the Contax T2 camera. She praised its image quality, user-friendly nature, and ability to capture candid moments effortlessly. This endorsement from Kendall Jenner led to a significant increase in the usage and purchase of the Contax T2 among celebrities.

Its sleek design and film photography appeal, coupled with Kendall’s influential recommendation, made it a sought-after camera in the celebrity world. The Contax T2 has become a symbol of timeless style and artistic expression, captivating the attention of many celebrities like Zendaya or Emma Chamberlain among others who now embrace film photography.

Many users claim that the Contax T2 is overrated and criticize its autofocus capabilities despite its fame. While opinions may vary, it’s important to consider that camera preferences are subjective and dependent on individual shooting styles and expectations. The Contax T2 gained its reputation for its iconic design, image quality, and manual shooting controls, which have appealed to many photographers. However, it’s worth noting that no camera is perfect, and each model may have its limitations.

Some users might have experienced issues with autofocus accuracy, leading to their criticisms. Ultimately, it’s essential for photographers to find the camera that aligns with their specific needs and preferences.
